…Being So Close

Posted on

Friday after work a friend and I headed to the local fairgrounds to hear some good ol’ country music. If you see my updates on Twitter, you know that it was Rascal Flatts. I have actually seen them twice before, once at the same fairgrounds. However, last time I was sitting back there:

IMG_0026(see the lawn in the background – yup, way back there!)

And this time, I was sitting here:

It was an amazing show! When the bass was loud enough, I could actually feel it pounding in my chest. I have never had seats so close (about 15 rows back), and I don’t think I can go back to the nosebleeds again.

There were still some odd moments – like when two Barbie look-a-likes came and sat next to us. Being 5’3″ and not quite at my fighting weight made it hard for me to stand next to them. Thankfully, my friend agreed to switch seats with me (a good deal for him, KWIM?!) and they actually left after a few songs. Then there was this guy:

(stood there with his leg up on the seat like that for the whole time they were resetting the stage after opening act Darius Rucker)

I took a bunch of pictures on my point-and-shoot (cameras with detachable lenses not allowed) and a few short videos. You can click on the collage below to see the pictures full-sized in Flickr.

Next up is Sugarland in September and Brad Paisley in October – yeehaw!!

2008 Moments in Review

Posted on

Since everyone else is doing it, I figured I better do my New Year’s Eve meme.

For a different view of the past year, check out the Moments of Wonderful Diabetes 365 page.

Anyway – Here it goes. The first sentence from the first post each month this year:

January: Happy New Year – here’s your antibiotic “Happy New Year – let’s celebrate with an ear infection!!”

(would you believe that my ear is starting to tingle again this year?!)

February: Please Pray for My Family “My family got some really bad news this week.”

March: Just another day “It was a great day, the sun was shining – okay maybe the sun is always shining here – but it was shining today too!”

I think this was the post where I started the clumsy category on my blog!

April: I can’t help it! “Okay, I admit it!”

This is the post where I admit I am a little too obsessed with celebrities.

May: Starting with the Leaking Waterbottle “I have so much to write but no time to write it.”

leeching BPA anyone?

June: O-hi-O “In Ohio for a conference.”

Two words for you – communal bathrooms!!!

July: There is a lesson in it somewhere “As I mentioned before, I moved this weekend.”

Anyone else ever had their blood drawn in the dark?!

August: The problem is we grow up “Here’s the problem – a child with diabetes at some point becomes an adult with diabetes.”

Don’t remember this post? Are you my mother?

September: The end of the long weekend “Whew!”

Does that count as a first sentence? Seriously though, you have to click on the link to this post to see one of my best pictures EVER!

October: Watch me vlog a site change “Long time, no vlog right?”

Gaps in my vlogging seems to be a theme. I am thinking of getting a Flip video camera with some Christmas money. Thoughts from the peanut gallery?

November: The angel, the devil, and the elephant “I love living in the United States”

Dressing up the cats is not just a Christmas event!

December: Yes we can have our cake “…and eat it too!”

In keeping with tradition, I am reposting a picture from exactly one year ago.

Ninja kicks and cheese sticks

Whew! I can’t believe I haven’t posted in days! Even with two weeks off work, it doesn’t seem like enough time. My mom and I just got back last night from visiting my brother and his family in the Vegas area. Of course, you will all be subjected to those pictures later! Another great part of this break has been meeting up with friends I don’t get to see often since my move across country.

Tonight was one of those meetings and what has begun to be an annual holiday tradition. I was even able to record a short video while we were hanging out and film a short vlog.

If you don’t follow me or my special guest on Twitter, you don’t know what’s coming – if you do, it’s just as much fun as you can imagine!

Sadly, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” song, that we had planned to duet, was too new to make it in the songbook. Maybe next year!

Have a great week everyone!

the key to fun

Posted on

Last weekend, some friends and I took a little road trip down to the Keys. By little road trip, I mean it took us about 5 hours to get to our destination. It reminded me of a trip I took my freshman year of college. A friend and I drove to Colorado to celebrate the new year with some roommates. I remember being so excited when we finally crossed the border into Colorado, only to find out we had 3 hours left to go. It was just like that this time too! The Keys are a LOT longer than I thought!

Of course, with three girls traveling together, we had to make a few bathroom stops. Some of the locations were quite interesting. This one wanted to make sure we didn’t use the wrong door.

Based on the cleanliness of the bathroom, we didn’t want to touch anything we didn’t have to.

My travel buddies are quite the foodies so we found some great places to eat

One location, Blue Heaven, had amazing food and great service. When we were in the gift shop, I noticed some platinum records on the wall from Kenny Chesney. I asked the cashier about it and she mentioned that a sign they used to have on the gate inspired his song, “no shoes, no shirt, no problem”. I don’t know if it was it’s proximity to the Heminway house, but there were cats wandering the grounds as well.

Of course, what brings people to the keys other than Key Lime pie? The idea disgusts me, but I guess other people enjoy it.

We also noticed that they were very proud of all their ‘southern-most locations’.

There was actually a line of people waiting to get their picture taken at the southern-most point. Everybody takes turns taking pictures for the people in front of them in line. It was quite a fun group when we were there.

And last, but certainly not least, it wouldn’t be a vacation if I didn’t take a few silly pictures with statues.

Believe it or not, there are a few more pictures I didn’t post here that you can few in the Flickr set.

For the ‘single ladies’

This cracks me up so I had to share!

Compare the recent SNL skit below to the original (further below). Then try to get the song out of your head today!

Happy Monday!

The original parody video was removed – this is the best I can do! Bummer NBC!

Don’t Vote!

I was a psych major. I think this might be a little reverse psychology! 😉

P.S. Check out why everyone’s favorite diabetic (Halle Berry) thinks you should vote!

Spit shine

Say what you will about politics (in the comments if you have to), but Piper Palin spit cleaning/’brushing’ her baby brother’s hair during the RNC was one of the cutest things I have seen in a long time.
