An Exchange

Posted on

Back when I was first diagnosed (correctly) – I was ‘put’ on exchanges. This is the breakfast I had every day. I didn’t know what else to do.

November 11, 2007 - diabetes365 - day 34

It is 2 scrambled eggs with cheese, two pieces of whole wheat toast with peanut butter, and a banana. The banana did not make the cut in this picture because it was so brown I thought you all would be disgusted – but that’s how I like them. 😉

This picture was taken as part of the diabetes365 project. You can view all my pictures by clicking on the diabetes365 link at the top of this page or in Flickr. View the photos from all of the participants here.

  1. Oh that exchange system deserves a kick in the pants. Well, not really. It was the only thing we had. I remember the dietician sitting next to my hospital bed, explaining that I would have one milk exchange at every meal. I said “I don’t like milk” and she snapped, “no substitutions allowed” (sort of like a waitress).
Actually, that breakfast looks really good to me…..but, I just can’t handle that many carbs in the morning.
I also see that DP in the pic – when other people in my office are getting their coffee, I’m over at the pop machine getting my Diet Pepsi. Although, I have recently acquired a fondness for CokeZero.
    Have a great week ahead.

  2. I remember the old exchange lists, too. Thank God those are gone! I remember my mom making me eat a spoonful of mayo if I hadn’t eaten my required number of “fat” excanges for the day. Yuck!
