User Error

I had my blood draw for my A1C this morning. I am a quick draw but a frequent bruiser. That’s the endo office – the tall white one the water.

November 8, 2007 - diabetes365 - day 31a

When I woke up this morning, I looked at my pump. There were about 20 units left. My TDD is about 35, so it was bordering on plenty to get me home from work.

That is, unless part of my job today was to to host a formal 5 course meal include both sorbet after the salad course and a dessert. As yes, and if I had not seen a 266 at the start of the meal.

I bolused for the meal and then heard a strange beeping a few moments later. I looked at the others at my table and said “Do you hear that beeping? I don’t think it’s me. It could be me… yup it’s me” The pump was black-circle empty.

When I got home tonight at 8:30, rang in at a lovely 381.

The pump should definitely have a alarm screen – USER ERROR.

  1. Ugh. I hate when that happens. I usually try and leave my current vial and a reservoir and set in my purse.

  2. I experienced a ‘No Delivery’ due to empty reservoir yesterday, and that was definitely ‘User Error’. I was half expecting my pump to actually say on the screen “Hey dumbass, you’re stoopid!” since I’d been walking around for most of the day with the reservoir beyond empty. I have no idea why I allow myself to rely on those few hidden units at the end, but I’d bet I’m not the only one.

We’ve all been there… Hope you’ve come down now and are feeling better though.

  3. Hi Sara,
Sorry you had this happen. I’ve been really close before but haven’t run out completely (yet). But I’m sure it will happen sometime.

I hate that you ended up so high after a great meal. That is so irritating.

I hope all it well now.
