Sitting in the Dallas/Fort Worth airport for over four hours. Wait a minute! I had a direct flight from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale, what was I doing in Dallas?
I HAVE NO IDEA!!!
I checked in yesterday online, picked my seat, and printed my boarding pass. The flight was scheduled for 6:45 AM. I was at the airport by 5:15. Handed my bag to the skycap and he says, “I’m sorry but you’ll have to check in inside, your flight has been canceled.”
American is notorious for having the longest check-in lines so I was less than thrilled. I got in line, but quickly noticed that it was not moving at all. “Hmm,” I thought, “I wonder if my useless boarding pass has a phone number on it?”
Sure enough it did, and a few short minutes later I was rebooked through Dallas with my glorious 4 hour layover. Instead of getting to Florida at 3 PM, I will be arriving at 9 PM. I had planned to go to work as scheduled on Wednesday… I’ll keep you posted on that.
EDITED TO ADD: several more delays later, I arrived in Fort Lauderdale at 10:30 pm and home shortly before midnight!
What did I do while I was waiting in Dallas:
Loved that chicken ate chicken at Popeye’s
Counted the number of ill-placed words on women’s clothing – Hawaii on a rear, SEXY on a too-tight tank top were my favorites
Debated whether or not it was worth $9.99 for a few hours of internet access (nope!)
Wrote a letter to American Airlines to express my displeasure with their customer service throughout the day.
I used frequent flier miles for this trip so the whole ordeal was FREE!
